Why must I update my ipad passcode?

Hi my ipad asked me to update my pass code yesterday, the 4 digit one, why would it do this, it said I had only 60 mins to update? And wouldn't allow me not to update. I have not upgraded to Ios8 I'm still on 7. I am worried now I am being hacked, do you have any ideas? Thanks.
