Can I go back to Mavericks?

I really wish I had read this article before downloading Yosemite. It has been the worst move in my iMac career. Yosemite is painfully slow and a complete nuisance to use. What can I do know as I understand it is not possible to downgrade back to Mavericks, or is it??
