my guess is that you are both sharing an apple ID- I would get separate ID's or at the very least get separate FaceTime and iMessage accounts

I had the same problem and I found my solution under FaceTime. I had to turn off FaceTime to receiving phone calls on it, and allow it just to receive FaceTime calls. It's worth checking out if that's your issue too.

On the iPad under FaceTime disable cellular calls. That should do the trick.
