iPad cameras shutter won't open. Can you help me?

I have an iPad 2 wifi. When I open the cameras all I get is a dark screen showing all the camera functions (square, photo, video, time laps, record button, switch front/rear camera) but the shutter won't open. I tried doing a "reset all settings" and "restore as new" but no success. Running iOS 8.1 now. Screen glass recently repaired.....

Is there anything covering the lens, i.e. iPad cover? If not, I recommend you make a genius bar appointment with the nearest Apple Store to get them to diagnose and possibly repair it for you.
