Difiphone 6 adapter and iPad Air 12W adopter

I was wondering what's the Differance between iphone 6 usb charger adapter and iPad Air 12W usb adopter? Can the USB adapter be used between each other or does the iPad Air adapter need to be used only on the air?

The difference is the power output. The little square charger plug puts out 1A (5W). The iPad charger puts out 2.1A (12W). Both are approved by Apple for all iPhone/iPod and iPad devices. However, the 5W will struggle to charge an iPad (beyond the original Mini).

I thought the 12W charger was 2.1A?

Anyway, either is perfectly safe to use with the iPhone. I use my iPad charger all the time with my iPhone.
