how do I stop my cursor from jumping around on my macbook pro?

recently the cursor on my macbook pro has starting jumping around when I am typing. I'm at my wits end. Is there anything I can do or something I can reset to stop it?

I'm typing this response on my MacBook running OS X Yosemite, but my cursing is operating like it should. What OS are you using? Have you tried rebooting your MacBook Pro?
