Why won't the Safari "bookmarks" window close on iPad?

I'm using the latest version of Safari on an iPad air running OS 8.0.2
After I select a bookmark, the selected page opens but the bookmark list remains open and visible. I asked this a few weeks ago and you suggested I reboot the device. I tried this, but the problem persists.

iOS 8.1 has been officially released so I suggest you install it and see if the problem gets fixed. Let us know either way.
