Why can't I send SMS on Yosemite and iPhone 5S with iOS8?

SMS on Yosemite and iPhone 5S /w iOS8

Hey guys!

I've been using Yosemite since the first Public Beta and I never was able to get Text messages to work. I can send/receive iMessages just fine, but text messages are on my iPhone 5S only.

I have Handoff enable alright on both Yosemite and iOS 8.

Am I missing something? Is this feature limited to iPhones 6 and 6 Plus (My 6 Plus is to be shipped on October 31st!).

Was that not meant to work with the 8.1? Or I'm missing something here
