Why won't the speaker on my iPhone 4S work?

I

iMore Question

I cannot get any sound from the speaker of my iPhone4s ie no music, no ringtones, no sound from apps, no voice on a phone call. If I plug in headphones, they work fine. Also the only time I get vibrate is when I switch the mute button on and off. When I adjust the volume control with no headphones in the phone, it does not show that the phone thinks headphones are still connected.

I have tried:
Upgrading to latest iOS 8
Resetting phone
Replacing dock connector
Replacing speaker unit
Cleaning headphone socket with QT/cotton buds

I have run out of things to try. Anyone got any bright ideas?

Re: iPhone 4s speaker won't work

The only thing left to do is make a Genius Bar appointment with the nearest Apple Store to have them diagnose the problem for you.

Sounds, no pun intended, that you have tried everything. I second the Genius Bar appointment.

Thanks, I should have said that I have tried that also and as the phone is out of warranty, the Genius bar can't help. I have ordered a new earpieice speaker and will try replacing that. Clutching at staws now...
