Why is the Network registering on the phone different from the SIM in the phone?

You could be in a location that doesn't have your carrier, so you're roaming. I have T-Mobile but sometimes when I'm traveling I pick up AT&T. Or when I'm downtown Detroit near the Detroit river I pick up Rogers, which is in Canada (because Windsor, Ontario is directly across the river).
