Why isn't the Whatsapp messages not opening on I-phone 5?

Whatsapp messages do not open on I-phone 5

I updated my I-phone 5 software to iOS8.

Since then messages from certain contacts do not open, but defaults back to the I-phone main screen i.e. exits Whatsapp when trying to open message.

Any available fix for this?

have you tried deleting the app and re installing?
