Why does my phone freeze when trying to delete messages?

i try to delete my messages off my phone, and then my phone freezes forcing me to turn off my phone. once i turn it back on all the messages are back. what do i do??

Have you tried a hard reset? Press and hold the power button and home button at the same time until the apple logo appears and disappears. Wait about 20 seconds and then turn your phone back on.
