downloading IOS8 to iPhone and iPad

attempting to download iOS 8.0 to my 5s and iPad. 1st i get a message stating my request for the down load has been submitted. Then i get message stating downloading approx wait time 20 hrs. Then when it gets down to about 16 hours i get error message saying down load did not complete. Am i doing something wrong?
