Why is it written at the back of apple products "designed by Apple in California Assembled in China"?

Why is it written at the back of apple products "designed by Apple in California Assembled in China. Really? Like seriously is it assembled in China? Or it's just written there or it's just written in some phones or something?

It's supposed to make Americans feel slightly better about buying something made overseas. At least it was designed in the US.
