Can I use my iphone 4 sim card with the new iphone 6?

The 5s and 5c use a smaller sim. The new 6 will at least have that if it hasn't changed. So no. Unless you modify it.

Depending on the type of sim used you may have to cut it or get another one from your carrier in the required size

To cut it, you need a SIM cutter. Here is a link: Amazon.com: sim cutter. Choose whichever one you prefer.
