How do I put old movie files onto my iPhone?

Hi I have old videos from an old phone mov files bed want to edit them on my iphone now I can change them to mp4 in my computer where these are kept but I can't get them on my iphone 5 to edit with iMovie app
Anyone got any ideas how to do this please
