iTunes Match as exclusive music back up

Is this a good idea or is it best to back up to an external hard drive?

I use Match as a back-up for the event my HD back-up fails...

I have all my music in Match. I do have a back up I do once every few months, but mostly rely on Match. I download whatever play list I want to listen to at the time.

I don't see why not. Unless apple goes under. If something is missing then You just call them and they can fix it.

iTunes Match.

All of my music is in Music Match. I also keep a HD backup but I don't worry about it as much since we started music match a couple years ago.

Say I need to restore my computer to its factory settings and I use iTunes Match. Will all my music be available again once I reinstall iTunes and sign into my Apple ID?

Yup. On your Mac or PC and all your iOS devices that you have on that account.

I was a little hesitant to do the PC restore as I was afraid I may lose all my music.

I think it's good to have but I feel like nothing is as good as having a backup on an external drive
