Why won't my iPhone rings sometimes even when the volume is raised to its highest level?

I have my volume set on the highest and sometimes it does not ring or vibrate...why?

Hi, welcome to iMore, check that switch near the volume buttons isn't turned on, also slide up from bottom and check in control center that the do not disturb is turn on.
