Find my ipad

on Default setting for mini-ipad the find my ipad option is on?
What happened was that somebody stole my son mini-ipad and using the www.icloud.com does not found the equipment.

It asks you during setup, there really isn't a default setting. I think the activation lock should be default, but it depends on what you set. If iCloud.com says it's "offline" that means you had it turned on, and can therefore turn on Lost Mode, which will stop anyone from using it.
