I can't access my iPad & iTunes isn't recognizing it. What can I do?

I must have miss-clicked when changing my password because i cannot get into it and i have tried different passwords etc...
I have tried to sinc it into iTunes by holding the home and lock button down until the apple logo appeared and then continued to hold the home button. The
"connect to iTunes" symbol appeared and i have plugged it into my laptop and got up iTunes and my iPad isn't showing on there... what can i do?
