Multiple Users on one apple account

Our family has one apple account but multiple devices. We want to keep info on our own devices separate from the other person's device.

You need to create a separate Apple ID for each device

My kids and I use the same id. The only thing that I do is turn off automatic app updating and different ids for iMessage.
