Photos blank

Black-blank- spaces have shown up in my IPhone 5. They are taking up storage space. I literally have hundreds of them!

Can you download them from your phone to your computer? If so, do they still look like black squares or do they regain their actual image?

If you connect your phone to your computer and look in the DCIM folder, what do you see there?
