can't correct phone # for messages on apple id on ipad

For some reason my ipad shows my husband's phone # on messages on my ipad. So I have repeatedly tried to go in and access this and correct it to MY phone # and there is no where I can do it. I never entered this # in my ipad but I do remember when I set my ipad up apple kept trying to put all the phone #s on my account and my email on my "how I could be contacted". I need to correct this phone # on my ipad messages - my iphone has the correct phone #! HELP

Back up both devices and set back up as new using the correct info for each device and you should be back to normal.
