Ok what is a bad ESN ??

From my understanding I know that AT&T and sprint and tmobile can have bad ESN's , but a boost mobile iPhone , how is that possible when they have no contract at all ?????? Please explain!

Even if someone loses it , it still has no contract so how could it have a bad ESN ! Smh !!

ESN = Electronic Serial Number
Bad ESN = You cannot activate the device containing the bad ESN
Clearing a Bad ESN = Allegedly, can only be done by the owner that caused the device to have the bad ESN.
If the device is reported lost or stolen to the carrier, the device will be deemed as having a bad ESN.
