Deleting photos from my iphone 4s

Trying to delete photos from my iphone 4s. the "delete" option is not available. I am not sure how to delete the photos.

While in your camera roll, can you choose "Select", then tap on the photos you want to delete and then tap on the trash icon or delete?

If the photos were not originally captured with the device they are on you will have to delete them thru iTunes
Meaning if you imported them ... Added them from a previous device thu iTunes or they were not received as an email or iMessage etc. you will have to go thru iTunes to delete them.
