How do I get rid of the annoying group chats side bar on facebook ipadmini

can anyone please help as I have just got an ipad mini and signed onto Facebook only to find the annoying way it displays my home page by having a big side bar of group chats which I have already turned off but cannot get rid of from the display screen ?#@#?

I also cannot work out how the hell I am supposed to get back to MY home page after getting to the news feed page..........if I didn't have a news feed item showing I cannot see what I would have to do to get back to my own home page because there is nothing to tap on to take you back grrr so annoying, Facebook irritates me at the best of times but this is just too much

If it is truly too much and you sound very unhappy delete your facebook acct from your iPad and don't participate in it at all. You have to make that call.

The side bar is the way the FB iPad app is. I don't really like it so I don't do FB on my iPad that much.

True that. I would still like to have the option of hiding it in landscape.
