Is there a way to delete a shared Apple ID and set up my own?

I bought an Ipad (ipad2) a few years ago and my brother helped me set it up by putting his email address as the apple ID and his info.
Now he is not around and I guess because he has the same ID for his ipad I keep getting his music, shows and apps which take up space and cannot get my own because his credit account is on the ID.
Is there a way to delete his account ID and set up my own?

Create your own AppleID... Then go into the iPad settings and replace the existing AppleID with your new one... Keep in mind, you'll not be able to keep purchases made under the prior AppleID.

Not to be repetitive, but this is extremely important to understand...when you create your own Apple ID and you end up restoring your iPad (which you will almost unquestionably do), you will not have access to any of the apps, music, etc purchased or DL'ed under his ID. It will all be gone or inaccessible.
