My new stylus doesn't work on my ipad air?

For some reason my ipad air won't pick up my new stylist can anyone help do I need to register my stylist with my ipad on do I need to get an app to use my stylist. Please help it's doing my head in.

Never heard of having to register a stylus before using on iPhone/iPad.

What specific stylus are you trying to use with it? I used the following with my iPad without any problems.

Griffin Technology Stylus - Apple iPhone Stylus - iMore Store

and one from Adonit that is no longer offered in the iMore Store.

As said earlier...I've never registered a stylist or stylus. Your stylus is broken!
