G mail app on iPad does not seek permission to use contacts.

Okay. Can you not go to Settings-Privacy-Contacts and then give it permission anyway? Are you able to select recipients from your contacts list while using the gmail app? Can you not uninstall and then re-install the gmail app to see if it will seek permission?
