When purchasing the ipad air is there a way to transfer everything on my ipad 2 to the new device?

Sync to iTunes and/or iCloud - and do a back-up to iTunes and/or iCloud.... then start the set-up of your new device, it will get to a point where you're asked if you want to restore from a back-up - say "yes" to that - and select one of the back-ups made prior... and sync the new device to iTunes - all will be well.
