I cannot find the world image on my keyboard to enable me to insert smylies into my messages.

Enable it in Settings>General>Keyboard>Keyboards>Add New Keyboard>Emoji. To use your new emoji, tap the new globe icon that will appear on your keyboard. Tap it again to switch back to the letter keyboard.
