ios 5.0.1 to ios 6

Hey guys, I want to update my Jailbroken iPhone4 that is currently in 5.0.1 (unteathered) into ios 6.
Ios 6 interests me because of the BBM app, which would be pretty neat to have.

Can anyone help me to update my phone?

Would I have to go Non-Jailbroken ios 6, then Jailbreak it once I am at that ios?

Also, I don't want to lose my contacts/music/photos, etc (apps I don't really mind, its just the ones I listed that are important). What do you guys recommend to back up my phone with?
Im rusty to jailbreaking, so you might need to go a little in depth.

You can’t get there from here. Apple is no longer signing iOS 6.x, so you cannot go there without having been there and having your SHSH blobs saved... all you can do is stay where you are or go all the way to 7.0.2.
