iPhone 4 memory card into iPhone 4S?

Is it possible to replace the iPhone 4 memory card into an iPhone 4S, and retrieve data from it (iPhone 4 memory card)?

I have an iPhone 4 which is not working at all, but I would like to retrieve some data from it (mainly photos). If I simply swap the memory card of a friend's iPhone 4S, will it be possible to retrieve them? If so, are there any things I need to be careful about when swapping back the iPhone 4S memory card, etc?
