Text messaging on your iPad

I have an iPhone and I am considering getting an iPad. Is there any app (official or through jailbreaking) that will allow you to text message on the ipad? I guess it would work where an app would push all received messages to the iPad from the iPhone and the opposite to send.

Now that I am thinking about it, any like that for OSX?

BTW I know about iMessage but obviously not the same thing.

There are a few apps in the app store that will allow you to do text messaging on the iPad as long as you have a data connection. TextFree comes to mind. They give you a separate number that is only good for texts on your iPad.

Get more friends with iPhones and iPads and use iMessage. Solved. If they don't have an iPhone they're probably not worth being friends with anyway ;-P
