The watch takes a long time to update, unfortunately.
Yes. Took me like 30 min this morning. I almost missed my workout window.

So without saying to do a fresh install, etc...I've had each iteration of the iPhone and have always purchased and plugged into iTunes and restored from a backup I do that morning. Currently I'm running my 6s and setting up downloading/installing WatchOS3. Friday morning I will back up my iPhone 6s a final time. I have a 4:00pm - 4:30pm pickup window time for my iPhone 7 at the Apple Store. I know I will need to sync my Watch to the new iPhone but if restore the iPhone 7 then it should have all the Watch info on it and then I just pair the watch and restore the Watch as well correct? Does that make sense?

By that reasoning there would be no new update/difference from yesterday's releases.
Right. My point was trying to stop the beta updates before yesterdays releases so I could get yesterdays releases. I batted .500. Success on the phone, on the Watches not so much. I inadvertently updated them to the wOS3 GM when I thought I was going to the last beta.

The entire process took about 2 hours for me...

The end result is worth it tho, I'm really happy with WatchOS 3.

John, in the past couple days, have you noticed any slowness on your Apple Watch, with OS3?

    1. It's much faster *** reported before.

    And 2. Complications are better.

To me it felt like a whole new watch out of the box!.

I have not had any slowness for the past betas and even the official release build. But I do not have many apps on the watch. Maybe that's the issue?

Apps that have updated are a heck of a lot faster than before they updated.

Really could have used the Breathe App during updating.

Yeah, it is a painfully slow process, but luckily it's not that often.

    Think it's only after a major update like from 2 - 3. 2.X.X - 2.X is a lot faster.

How do you force quit an app now? With OS2 you'd just hold the button until the power off screen and then click it again to quit the app. Now it's trying to make an emergency call. Not complaining about that feature, but I'm just curious how to do it now.

It's nearly updated after an hour and half or so. I have only just activated my watch as I've only just been able to start using it. First step was to update to 3.0

I didn't account for the update on the watch itself - which is about a sixth of the way through!

Hold the side button just as before, but instead of clicking it again, at that point you press the crown.

Spectacular! Thank you! I tried it and found you press and hold the crown until it closes the app. Very awesome, thank you for that tip... even though I probably should have been able to figure that one out.

I should have mentioned that but it's been quick enough for me that I don't really think of it as part of the process.

No doubt, but it's not quite as intuitive as a lot of other bits of the OS. Apple may have published it somewhere but even in the prior OSs it was an oft asked question. Apple isn't shy about changing the UI when they feel it warranted and not always mentioning the change.

I was trying this out last night and I accidentally called 911 I tried to cancel it but was too late. Next thing I know the dispatcher in town was calling me back luckily I knew who it was, and explained to him about trying to figure out a feature on my  watch. He started laughing and said that happened last week with someone else in town for the same reason ! Lol

I've now disabled the push and hold SOS feature so I don't do that again ! OMG how embarrassing lol

Long story short- I finally figured out the quit app function.

    fun fact:

If you reset all settings by selecting Settings > General > Reset All Settings, the Emergency SOS settings on the watch revert to default (Hold to Auto Call ON) and your emergency contacts get removed.
