What is the difference between different Apple Watch editions?

Can someone explain the difference between different Apple Watch editions? It seems there are these editions:

1. Sport
2. Hermes
3. Watch
4. Edition

What is the difference, really, between these? Is it just what they are made of?

You've noted that the main difference is the material they're made of (aluminium, steel gold etc) there are minor differences in the glass the screen is made of too. Beyond that it's what strap they're sold with. It's worth noting though that all straps work with all watches. I'm using an Apple Watch Sport with a black leather loop strap.

There is no difference in the internal hardware.
