Is that right? ... Boy wish I would've thought to ask every asinine question imaginable, and then speculate on them ...

What do you think? Is checking your Apple Watch any less rude than checking your phone? Do you plan to use your Apple Watch during meals, conversations, meetings, etc? Or are the rules the same, and it's rude to check your Watch at certain times?

In the old days when we all wore watches, people were pretty good at the sneak-glance to check the time and make sure you weren't late for your next meeting. It was considered rude if over-done, but acceptable if done quickly.

Smart watches are a bit different. Anyone who interrupts conversation to check out every alert is just as much an ******* as someone doing the same with their phone. And as Joshua Topolsky said, the Apple Watch doesn't do "sneak glance" well, because you have to make a very visible wrist move to turn it on.

Over all, glancing at your watch is ok, staring at it is not.

I wonder if the haptic love taps will lessen in some way the need to look at the watch to know what's up.

No, but it's more discreet.

It still takes your attention away from the present company and shifts it to a gadget. It's just quicker and the person may not notice. Either way, the watch wearer is still being distracted.

It's kind of like when you lust after someone in your heart but your partner doesn't notice. You're still doing the action, and will reap the consequences but they may be different consequences if say you stated out loud that you wanted to have sex with that attractive girl. Either way, the intention was there and the seeds were sown.

Nowadays though usually both or all parties are looking at their phones Constantly anyway.

The tap is awesome! No One else is aware. Instead of raising wrist (which is a big movement) you can tap the face to look for the red notification dot on the face. But you already know there is a notification because you got the love tap. When it's a polite time you can swipe down to view the notification.
No checking for a notification
No big wrist raise
No interrupting your conversation
