Got my ATV yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that I just had to go to activation pages for each app and enter a 6-8 digit code to activate. Is that how it was before the latest update or was it entering email address and password for each? My DirecTV password is cumbersome so I was prepared for the worst.

You're experience is typical. I've had my tv prior to the update. Most channels work as you've described. I have ran into a couple that require you to enter your password. It hasn't happened often though. I can't even remember which apps those were.
