Default Streaming channels on Apple Tv

I have been recently thinking of buying an Apple Tv as my current cable subscription has become extremely expensive of late.
I was simply wondering if there is any way in which you can live stream NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox shows, especially those in the morning (shows) to the Apple Tv.

    Thanks.
    P.S
I have no problem with jailbreaking if that is what it takes.

The only way that would work is if you have an app that will stream over AirPlay... to my knowledge, none of those programming sources stream any live programming via their apps.

I've been curious how people "cut the cord" and still get their fix. Buying the full seasons of only 6 shows I watch would cost as much as cable for the sane time period. Or do they just watch old half complete seasons streaming? I'd love to be a cable free house but would I have to sleep for 3 years and wait for Netflix to catch up to 2013?

For live TV, I use free over the air signal through an HD antenna. Of course, this is for local channels only.
For shows I've recently missed, I use Hulu (again, mostly network TV).

For everything else, you're pretty stuck with waiting for Netflix. But that's the price you pay for the same content at a fraction of the cost of cable. I've just learned to ask myself just *how* badly I needed to watch the latest cable TV programming. I found out that I didn't really miss it that much to watch it RIGHT NOW.

Now that Netflix has the family streaming plan I just might snip.

And now some networks - like CBS are streaming primetime shows day after first run over the air... you can AirPlay or display mirror from an iPhone or iPad to a TV and get a respectable experience... I still favor iTunes season passes for the two shows I really like, and want to have around to watch again.

For the HBO Go app, yes. The devs have to enable the app to support Airplay. A lot do, but not all.

if the app supports AirPlay directly, yes... otherwise, you can display mirror and it works reasonably well.

We cut cable about 3-4months ago....we have Netflix and Hulu Plus, then have a bunch of other apps on the ipad like NBC, Global, History etc and just lush the show over from the ipad to the Apple TV. Some shows you have to wait 1 day before you can watch it. Ie) it airs today on TV you watch it tomorrow.

My question is kind of along those lines as I'm thinking about an ATV, too. Does the Amazon app allow for streaming through AirPlay? I've got both an Amazon Prime and a Netflix subscription, and obviously the ATV doesn't have Amazon on it, so I'm wondering if this is a workaround.

Just wondering...did you get this checked out? I have a Walmart giftcard burning a hole in my pocket for an ATV.

I just tried it out from both the iPad and iPhone Amazon Instant apps. They only seem to transfer the audio not the video to the ATV which is kinda useless.

I would guess that the issue is on Amazon's side and they haven't completely enabled it in their app yet.

In fact the app description in the AppStore says that it isn't supported.

I chose Hulu over Amazon because it supports airplay and has a decent app. Hulu isn't great selection wise but with that and good podcasts for current news I'm just about at that comfort level of cord cutting. If HBO or Showtime tested the aka carte model and offered me a subscription, that might push me over the edge. Funny I can't afford regular cable and The 2 premium channels I want, so because they are tied to expensive old model, they lose me as a viewer altogether.

Cut the cord two months ago, use Ntflix & Hulu with Apple TV. Glad I did, AirPlay also a great feature. Try it, if you don't like it your provider will gladly take you back into the fold $$$

My friend said that he was able to stream from his iPad to his Atv with airplay. I haven't witnessed it myself, but I wonder what he's doing if he gets it to work.

If the app does not support airplay directly - one can always enable display mirroring on an iPad and 'stream' anything that will show on an iPad's screen.
