The new generation of Apple TV is not at all better always. It has some drawbacks. For example.. in new Apple TV when connecting the USB port, it is only designated for support & service but issue will be for tweakers.. In old Apple TV , the USB port was worth full to users, when it is limited to maintenance and service needs only and also works good. Better you can maintain the old one.

I have the old apple tv and use my google tv for netflix. I see no reason for me to get the new one, my old one works fine.

The new Apple TV is the future. However, that future isn't here yet. One day we all hope we'll be able to AirPlay everything from web video to games on the iOS Apple TV but right now that's all it is, a hope.
Until Apple really amps up the features, unless you're a huge Netflix user and don't have another TV conduit, you're probably fine with the old Apple TV. - 11-26-2010, 02:21 PM #8
I think the Apple TV has its good side, but also its bad. Streaming only is 50/50. but renting only? I do like how it has HDMI, and not the component ports. We all know Apple has a hate for the current standards. (2008 they said Mini display will be the standard. It hasn't yet. )

Just a quick question, does the old Apple TV have any hack that lets you do something similar to airplay?
Also, to the OP, though this is an old question, yes please, do Jailbreak

I rewatched the Apple TV 2ed gen keynote and it seems Apple may have the right track, but when you compare the other services out there, many have apps and I think Apple should really start to open the Apple TV to have Apps and perhaps a web broswer. jobs may have said "People don't want a computer on their TV" and that may be sort of true, but its not the case for everyone. but would it be nice to have a device that can combine everything so you could check your e-mail while watching a TV show, orn post a twitter or facebook status.
One thing I'm thinking could happen is lets say you have an iPhone and Apple TV. Your phone will be in sync with your TV and you get a phone call. Well an on screen graphic will appear showing you the photo, name, and number of the person who is calling.
Just throwing it out there. Untill apple can enhance Apple TV I see more and more consumers buying TVs with wifi bulit in and apps fully supported or even the new Google TV. Those offer a lot more features for the price you pay. forcing people to stream and "rent" TV shows is not good. Having the option to do so is. - 02-14-2011, 08:09 PM #17
