External hard drive for Time Machine ejecting for no reason

My Mac seems to be haunted. When I move it to connect something to the USB ports on the rear, my Time Machine disk mysteriously disappears from the Computer view and the OS complains that it wasn't ejected properly, even though I definitely didn't mean to eject it or even touched the Thunderbolt cord. Weird. Anyone else seen this? Know what to do?

There may be a short or something in one of your cables. Whatever it is, I would make a Genius Bar appointment with the nearest Apple Store to have them check it out for you.
