I have been looking everywhere for the dimensions of this adapter. Apple's website doesn't have anything listed and I can't seem to find any other articles about it online. I'm just wondering if I get an adapter, will my iPhone hang too far above on my iHome (and not get support from the back bar)?

I'm right there with you, ecr. I have been putting off my i5 purchase until these are available. I love my iHome too much to give it up.

PLEASE READ: I would Recommend the Adapter with cable.... After Pre-ordering the Adapter I realized that it might not fit onto my phone because I have a case on it and wont Have enough space to account for 30 Pin White Plastic Part. I have OTTERBOX DEFENDER CASE. To those that have a case on your phone..... Try to see if the White Plastic Part of 30 pin will fit thru your case. I'll have my Adapter delivered tomorrow but ill have to return it for one with a cable.

Apple4ever: I asked on another thread and the 30 pin cable does not fit into the opening in the Otterbox. I was pretty disappointed by this. I think I am going to pick up a CandyShell Flip since I can just flip the bottom up whenever I need to dock my iPhone with the adapter.

I received both adapters yesterday -- ordered them from Apple.com at the midnight launch. Anyway, the one without the short 6-ish inch cable fits flush to the iPhone and is the same width as the 30-pin cable it plugs into, so a case that does not have any room around the lightning port will not work. In that case, "Apple4ever2011" is right -- you would be fine with the cable adapter.

Snap, could I be a real pain in the butt and ask you to measure the length of the adapter (the actual adapter, not the wired one)? I have an iHome that I don't think I can live without. I'm wondering how high the iPhone will sit and if the back bar will still support the phone. Thanks!

PS - Like I said above, I don't think the opening in the bottom of the Otterbox cases is big enough for the adapter, but if someone could double check for me I'd sure appreciate it!

Not a pain... it's what we're all here for, to help each other out! It is exactly 3/4 inch in length...

Ahhh, that's perfect! The support bar on my iHome will still support the phone about 1/4 - 1/2 an inch. I feel a little better now (even though there are tons of iHomes that don't have a bar on the back to support the phone.
