Where did you order it? The carriers use different delivery services, and I have gotten stuff from Apple on both UPS and FedEx.
When you get your shipping notice with the tracking number go to that delivery service's website and go through the steps they require to waive delivery confirmation... they may have specific steps to follow.
And be advised that if you leave the form and they leave the iPhone and somebody comes along and takes it, YOU are the one who is out of luck...

I tried to order from Verizon but when added a line it looked like It created not just a second line but a second plan. There were no Verizon reps on the phone to help walk me thru. On all my devices, although I tried ordering at 3 am eastern, I couldn't access the apple site until close to 4. What was the point of waking up to order?

I still haven't gotten my confirmation email from Verizon, ordered at like 12:55am (MST). I did screen print the order confirmation and can see using the preorder site that "We have received your order and it is in process". I know they said it could take up to 24 hours for a confirmation email, but this seems to be pushing it. Man, it's tough to be patient - it's going to be a long week!

However, doing so relieves them of any responsibility or liability if some low life decides to walk off with your package.

WSJ article suggests delayed ship dates are real
The following WSJ article confirms Apple Store sold out of inventory within an hour and ship dates are real and those whose orders indicate shipping in 2 weeks wouldn't ship any further. In addition, the article confirms that preordering from carriers was a better idea this time around as their inventory did not sell out until later in the day.

Anyone else getting this message when the check from the link in the confirmation email? "Please check the information you have entered. Data may be missing or may have entered an invalid Pre-Order Number or Last Name." I've entered it several times so I know it's correct. Yesterday it said my order was received and is processing, and when I check using the preorder link, I still get the received and processing status.
